Game Recap

Washington High School started their season with an awesome win versus a talented Bremen High School team led by Head Coach Mark Yoder. Coach Cruz knew that this would be a tough game and decided to play a very cautious formation. This year, he started the game by playing 1 senior and 3 freshmen and 5 Juniors and 2 sophomores. Washington took the lead by scoring an early goal at minute 4′ by a free kick taken by sophomore, Abraham De Luna, who left the goal keeper watching the ball passing into his net . Jonathan Castaneda didn’t give up and was at the right moment to put the ball behind the scoring line after following an indirect kick taken by Abraham De Luna. Freshmen and talented, Ricardo Alvarez, showed that he came to assist the Washington Soccer Program by taking two defenders and chipping the ball over the goal keeper at minute 56′. Axel Valenzuela, a sophomore, came home with two goals under his belt. He scored a penalty shot at Minute 71′ and showed everyone that this year, he is back and is back for good by scoring a beautiful goal after following a through ball by Jorge Alonso and beating three defenders with speed and chipping the soccer ball over the goalie’s head.

Coach Julio Cruz is very proud of the way the team played and is very excited to continuing playing and is already looking to playing Marian on Thursday.
